Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed in your bone to anchor a replacement tooth. Endosteal (into the bone)

placed titanium screws fuse with the bone during the healing process. Dental implants can be used as part of a solution to replace single or multiple teeth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants can be used to anchor replacement teeth in the form of single crowns, fixed bridges, or a full arch denture. The dental implant provides the anchor and stability for a replacement crown to look and feel like a natural tooth.

When you lose a tooth, the jawbone will resorb as it heals, which may give a more aged appearance. Dental implants help stimulate the bone, which helps to preserve the bone, reducing overall shrinkage and resorption of the bone.

Dental implants used to replace a single tooth (crown) or multiple teeth (bridge) eliminate the need to modify neighboring healthy teeth. Traditional crown-and-bridge placement involves removing the outside layers of the adjacent teeth to allow space for the placement of the supporting crowns. Dental implants are self-supporting and therefore do not require damage to the adjacent teeth. Single implant crowns have an improved success rate over time compared to the average life span of a traditional bridge.

Dental implants expand your dental treatment options, helping you to restore your dental health, chewing ability, and your smile.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

An ideal dental implant candidate has good overall and oral health, with healthy gum tissue. Certain chronic health complications may contraindicate healing and thus implant placement. After careful oral evaluation and discussion of your health history your dentist will discuss dental implants as part of your treatment options.

At Dentures Plus, we use 3-dimensional imaging to determine if you have sufficient bone for implant placement. Bone enhancement through bone grafting may be needed to improve your implant treatment success. The health of your gum tissue may need to be addressed. At Dentures Plus we plan and treat for implant success.
