FIXED BRIDGE ON IMPLANTS
Benefits with a fixed bridge on two or more implants:
In this case in the picture to the right, when replacing three teeth in the far back of the mouth, a fixed bridge anchored to two dental implants or three individual implants are the only fixed alternatives. Traditional dentures can't offer the same stability or function.
Having dental implants replacing your missing back teeth will give you unparalleled strength and stability that allows you to eat what you want. It will also preserve your jawbone and facial appearance.
Implant costs include the cost of the implant and abutment ($1 300/per implant) and crowns ($695/tooth). There may be additional costs incurred for bone-grafting, or root tip extraction. A full treatment plan with costs will be clearly presented during a comprehensive exam.
After the initial examination, you can expect 4-5 additional visits until the final fixed bridge is permanently attached. Any discomfort is usually treated with an ordinary anti-inflammatory agent, such as Motrin. You should expect to be able to work the next day.
COURSE OF TREATMENT
INSTALLING THE FIXED BRIDGE– STEP-BY-STEP
The course of treatment described here is one of several options available. Consult your dentist to find out what the best solution is for you, given your specific condition.
1: Before the procedure
Three teeth at the back end of the mouth are missing. The only fixed alternative is installing a fixed bridge. The bridge contains all teeth in one piece and is anchored on dental implants.
2: Installing the implant
First, the implants are installed. This is normally done in a single session.
3: Attaching the bridge
The implants need to integrate with the jawbone before the permanent bridge is attached. This is normally done 2-5 months after the implant installation. The time will vary, depending on the teeth affected and the healing involved.
4: End result
The new bridge will handle the pressure similar to your strong, natural back teeth. You will have a stable and secure solution that allows you to eat what you want. You may also wish to have three implants placed to replace the three lost teeth. The implants are then restored individually.
ALTERNATIVES TO FIXED BRIDGE
Removable partial denture
This is a cost effective solution for the loss of multiple teeth, and natural teeth are spared. At Dentures Plus a cast metal partial denture is priced at $695 for the appliance. This is a prosthesis and it will take a bit of time to be comfortable with it in your mouth. The appliance will require a few adjustments initially, and then an occasional adjustment over the years. Oral hygiene is as important as always. Brushing and flossing, and professional cleanings will maintain the health of especially the anchor teeth that hold the partial in place.
